Roy Bourgeois’s latest campaign to support women’s ordination

Roy Bourgeois remains a powerful voice for sanity in the Catholic Church. In his latest campaign to “poke the beehive” of the patriarchy, he organized a national billboard campaign supporting women’s ordination with the message “Stop Male Supremacy.”

I cover Bourgeois, and Catholics who support women’s ordination in today’s issue of National Catholic Reporter: ‘Ordain women priests’ billboard campaign expands to New Orleans.

  1. Bourgeois’ billboard builds on a strong foundation and history of women organizing “Ordain Women” billboard campaigns. As the late Robert McClory reported in the NCR article, “Women’s ordination advocates post ‘sign from God’ in Chicago,” in response to the Chicago Archdiocese’s billboard campaign encouraging vocations to the priesthood, Mary Beth Lang came up with the idea of purchasing a billboard at a Women’s Ordination Conference gathering in 1999. A group of us then brainstormed, raised money, and bought a billboard, which then traveled throughout the country.
